Base Contracting Key Personnel


Base Contracting commenced in 2007 with 12 staff, modest turnover and little market share. Good management has seen the company develop into a progressive multi faceted contracting company now with 34 full time staff, extensive plant resources, major local market share and high turnover.

Base Contracting’s management team bring a wealth of experience and skills to the company.  Having worked in civil construction, mining and contracting industries both overseas and in New Zealand, they have successfully combined this with their local knowledge of the Queenstown region to create a unique offering.

With nearly 40 years experience in civil contracting, roading, project management and local government maintenance contracts Julian can successfully lead and develop contracting companies, whilst maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. Julian’s responsibilities as general manager include all staff matters, budget and financial control, contract pricing and claims, plant and material procurement, client and partner contractor liaisons, business development and company reporting and directing.
Murray Forward
Murray Forward Project Manager
Murray has over 32 years experience in the contracting and civil construction industry in the Wakatipu region. He brings to Base an invaluable local knowledge of contractors, council and the Wakatipu environment. Murray has extensive experience in project management and engineering of major civil infrastructure projects. He is a strong leader and manager who has a history of successfully delivering projects on time, within budget and to the satisfaction of clients.Murray is an excellent machine operator being able to operate all mobile plant when required and passing on the skills and knowledge he has developed over the last 32 years as a trainer and assessor for the up and coming operators of today.
Michael Stroud
Michael Stroud Operations Manager
Michael has over 20 years experience in the civil construction and mining industries both in New Zealand and overseas. Born and bred in the Wakatipu basin, Michael has a unique understanding of the local region and an expertise in working in the sometimes difficult regional terrain. With excellent communication skills and the ability to understand company and client needs and expectations, Michael is a natural leader who excels in managing employees, gaining respect and in return achieving excellent results. Michael has an in-depth knowledge of health and safety and managing the risks associated with every project.
Emily joined the Base team in 2015 after 5 years working in the Health and Safety and Trainer Assessor area in Western Australia. Emily currently oversees the health and safety and quality for Base Contracting and it's sub contractors. She brings extensive knowledge of the health and safety industry from her work in the mining industry, having been the main point of contact for the Department of Mines. Emily also brings practical knowledge with hands on experience operating haul trucks, watercarts, rollers and 47 tonne excavators. In addition, Emily has vast experience as an internal investigator for high potential incidents and accidents.
Brad Evison
Brad Evison Project Engineer
Brad joined the Base Contracting team in May 2016 to take on the position of Project Engineer and fitted in easily sharing the team’s love of hunting and the great outdoors. Prior to relocating to Queenstown to enjoy what the region has to offer, Brad worked as a Project Engineer and Quantity surveyor for a major earthworks company in the Wellington region handling projects of various sizes with an emphasis on earthquake proofing major buildings in and around the district. Brad’s responsibilities with Base Contracting include working alongside Julian to undertake contract pricing and claims, quality assurance on jobs and on site surveying. Brad from his prior work experience has a keen interest in health and safety laws and regulations and new technologies that are around the civil contracting industry. When required Brad will bring hands on experience to the workforce as he grew up operating various sized excavators and machinery.
